Amex Charge Card: Pros and cons of carrying a balance

I understand charge cards do not count against utilization. Is there any benefit to allowing a balance to report? Is it better to pay it off before the balance reports? Thanks.

Re: Amex Charge Card: Pros and cons of carrying a balance

I have an Amex platinum and I have let a balance report once in awhile and I didn't see any effect on my credit score. It may make sense to report a $0 balance if your planning to apply for something.

It doesn't factor into your utilization so it doesn't matter. I think a benefit is just taking advantage of the grace period which is interest free for about 25 days or whatever it is before you pay it off in full. But of course it's personal preference, pay it off before the statement if you have funds to do so.

The only thing I can see is it factoring into your total utilization
NFCU $60.4k/PenFed $22.5k/Commerce $15K/53 $11K/Synovus $14K/BBT $11K/CapOne $12K/DCU $7.5K/BMO $7.5K/Chase $14.5k/Cabelas $10K/ and many many more!
Total CL $398600, plus car and RV loan.
Ooh. Ooh. Getting closer to that $500K mark!

No, no effect whatsoever on your utilization
