Heh, neither did I and I've had cards since 1978 (closed all but 1 about 10 years ago). Perhaps that's the problem under utilized and under publicized.

I would guess Amex didn't want to send official notification to cardholders (many of the key customers may not "do" social media!). I don't remember how I found out about it when it started in 2013, but it has been mentioned here several times as well.

It makes sense to shutdown if the forum has proven to be non value add. Viewing the shutdown as a sign of a likely future bankruptcy is ...
I dislike dealing with companies via "Social Media." At least with a dedicated forum, one can search and see if their issue has been dealt with before. When limited to Facebook & Twitter, its really difficult to track a particular "thread" after the first day.

DH & I each rec'd an email telling us about the Community.
The reps on that forum were never really all that helpful, to be honest. But I was asking stuff like why I still had to sign when using AmEx with Apple Pay (vs. not having to with Visa), which they might not have any idea about.

Defintely some strange quirks: a lot of early posts asking why the forum had much stricter password requirements than are needed for your actual Amex account. Never a good answer to that apart from that's the way it is sort of thing.
I think earlier on, the reps were quite good, but as it became a complaints forum, the responses became more like contacting normal CSRs on the phone, giving scripted often unhelpful responses.
Also, every post had to be moderated and sometimes it took 2 or so days for this too happen. Not quite the speed of internet.
Well, ever since they banned my "images" of cash back credit card comparisons, the place has gone steadily downhill
Its just a place for complainers to complain about American Express, and i'm sure they didn't need to air their dirty laundry on the Internet...

I wasn't even aware there is such a thing.
