I have an question on how amex counts 2% for restaurants. Is it anything thats categorized as an restaurant. I went this morning to get an smoothie, and paid with my amex TE card. I just checked my account summary and it showed up as restaurant-bar&cafe. Would that count for being restaurant and 2% cash back ?

Yes, they recognize the business based on merchant code. If the merchant category is listed as restaurant, you will get 2% cash back.

ahh nice thanks for the info. I really need to use that card more for that 2% back lol. Its better than nothing. I don't think i have any other card that does more than 1% cb for restuarants.
I have been testing this myself over the last month+ because I too was using our Capital One QuickSilver for things like PinkBerry, Fast Food type places, etc. not thinking they would categorize but they do! I use Costco Amex for all the eating out stuff now!

Cool i am going to start doing that as well. I goto that smoothie few times an month so it will help with the 2% :-) my amex TE card is on gas and restaurant duty for most part lol
If you get a US Bank Cash+ visa signature card, it gives 5% cash back on restaurant smoothies.
You can app for the Platinum card, then 4-6 months later request ot be converted to a Cash+. Assuming you have $30,000 income and the card credit limit is $5000 or so. Not 100% sure on those requirements, but its what people on myfico have said previously.
