Amex Duh!

The Amex Plat card has an annual fee of $450.  Usually, you can call them up, and they will give you 10k points for keeping the card.  10k = $50.   Then the cost of the Amex Plat is now $400.

They are no longer giving any concessions for the annual fees.  Instead, they offered a Gold card, with an annual fee of $150.

Let's do the math

$450 annual fee

-$50 (10k pts)

$400 PROFIT

 $400 profit

-$150 annual fee for Gold

$250 LOSS

Uh...to me, it makes better sense to give the customer 10k points ($50) to say a customer at the Plat level instead of encouraging them to reduce to Gold level and pay $300 LESS in annual fees....   Where's the logic???

1.  Amex says if you go from Plat to Gold, you keep the same account number

2.  Amex says if you go from Plat to Gold, you keep your credit history (if you have had Plat for 10 yrs, it will say you had Gold for 10 yrs).

Anyone run into this logic?

Will they keep the same info plat to gold?
