I guess this shouldn't be much of a surprise, since the PRG is clearly the better product, but like the Zync before it, the original Amex Gold card has been discontinued. I'm not sure if this is news to anyone else, but I just found out today. I had the original Gold from 2006-2009, so I'm a little sad to see it go.
They still have it. It's available on the wesite.

Too bad about the 175 dollar annual fee on the PRG... I'd really like to replace my Zync with another NPSL, but I'm a little stingy when it comes to annual fees.
The Amex Gold Card is still available. I just changed my PRG to the Senior Gold Card since my annual fee of $175 is due later this month.
I think someone is misinformed. I logged into the Amex site and the Gold Card is still showing as a choice of Charge Cards.

Agreed. I have the Green and it's showing as one of the options available to me for upgrade:

When they say "Upgrade now", are they offering to PC, or is it a new card?
I have a question.
I am new to the AMEX family, when did that page start showing up with your preapproved offers? Also, how do you get to that page?
Thanks

I would assume it's a PC, but I'm not certain as I haven't taken the upgrade offer. They've given me a choice of Gold, PRG, or Platinum, but for my needs I'm happy with the Green.
