I have a PRG and platinum is on the way.
does anyone use this combo as a MR combo? If so, does the high AF seem to be worthwhile holding both cards?

I wouldn't really call it a "combo", as you're not getting a one-two punch from both cards. The Platinum only earns 1 point per dollar spent, so you would really only use your Platinum for the perks (lounge access, etc.). So if you won't be using the Platnium perks, I think a better combo would be the PRG and ED/EDP in terms of earning MR points. Use PRG for category spending and the ED/EDP for everything else (20/30 swipes a month).
I'll be using the plat perks, I guess I'm just wondering if there is any practicality to having both
It seems practical to me if you're using the Platinum perks to offset the heavy AF & then using the PRG for the faster MR accumulation.
I couldn't justify it personally with my spend and travel habits, or lack thereof.

Right, ccb was just questioning the use of the word combo, where, as in Freedom/CSP both cards contribute usefully to the same pool of points. As said, Plat's earning rate is really bad, so if MRs was the only goal, you would put spending only on PRG. But the two cards are compimentary, so it makes sense to have both if you can use the perks of Plat with the earning of PRG

There are some that do but not really as an MR combo. They're doing so for the benefits of the Platinum and the earn rate of the PRG.
Worth is always highly subjective. The way to answer your question isn't by polling others with difffering senses of worth, finances, etc but to run the numbers for your spend
It just depends on your traveling habits really. The platinum is only good if you fly a lot or stay in a lot of hotels. Otherwise, it isn't really worth having if you never do any of that.
I have both cards at the moment, but I doubt I will keep both. The PRG is by far the better card for spending, especially now with the addtional 2x on dining and no FTFs being added in June. But, of course, if you travel, you want to have both.
Since you mentioned you use the benefits on the plat and your use offsets the AF then the Plat makes sense. Whether or not you would want to also have the PRG is going to depend on whether or not your spend in the bonus categories is high enough to make it worthwhile even with the AF. If not then look at the amex everyday or everyday preferred for your MR earning. For some people it is worth having both, but you really need to do the math in your individual case to see if the PRG pays off when all is said and done.
What if one card was business and one was personal? It contributes to the same pool of MR points if it's one account holder, right?
