Re: Amex PRG to Platinum upgrade

I just received an upgrade offer in the mail a couple of days ago. I'd receive 25,000 MR points to go from green to platinum. But since I wouldn't use the benefits associated with the $475 AF, it wouldn't be a good deal for me. But the point is yes, icloud2525, it is possible to get such an offer. Maybe you should call and see if your account is eligible.

That's reassuring, thanks for the feedback. How long have you had your Green?

Oh! And if you're not going to upgrade, would you mind PM'ing me the RSVP code? Smiley Happy

Re: Amex PRG to Platinum upgrade

I upgraded my PRG to Platinum for 50K MR.  I don't remember exactly how long I had the PRG before I got the offer, but it was maybe around the 18 month mark.  The offer appeared online when I logged in to my account.

Re: Amex PRG to Platinum upgrade

Thanks. Ahhhh I want an upgrade offer already. I'm taking a trip shortly and would love the free SPG Gold and Hilton Gold status (for room upgrades, internet, etc.) that comes w/ the Platinum.

Re: Amex PRG to Platinum upgrade

Is there a reason you can't afford another inquiry right now?  Why not just apply for the card?  The MB version still has a 50K signup bonus.

Re: Amex PRG to Platinum upgrade

Don't mind the inquiry, but the main reason is that I already have SCRA in place for all of my AMEX accounts so annual fees are waived, and by keeping the same account number I won't have to go through the long process of setting it up again.

The majority of my spending has been shifted away from my PRG to Chase CSP, so no need to have the Platinum and the PRG.

Doesn't the MB version also have the "must not have had this product within the last 12 months or Amex Gold, Zync... bla bla within the last 90 days" restriction?

Re: Amex PRG to Platinum upgrade

Yeah, forgot they include that language now.  But if you're not using the PRG, I'd consider canceling it so you can start the 90 day clock.  Also, not sure how likely you are to get the offer if you're not using the card that much.  I was using mine heavily when I got the offer (which isn't to say I wouldn't have received it anyway if I hadn't been using the card).

How much of a pain was it to set up the annual fee waiver?  Is it worth 50K MR points?  There's no guarantee you'll get a targeted upgrade offer, and if you do, there's no guarantee what the amount will be.

Best of luck whatever you decide.

Re: Amex PRG to Platinum upgrade

I'm still running about $1K through the card per month.

Setting up the waivers took several phone calls, emails, and mailing of documents over a 5 month period. Well worth it of course, but if it's possible to avoid it I'd rather not do it again. I think I'll wait a few weeks until I hit 13 months and if I haven't received anything by then, I'll either cancel to start the clock (like you mentioned) or just take the upgrade w/o the MR points.

Thanks for the advice.

Anyone know what the spend requirement is to get the upgrade MR points?

@migo13

Speaking for tinuviel, PMing the code would not work for you because it is account specific.
