I just called and talked to an Amex Representative and she told me that the paying before or after the closing date does not affect what is being reported to the credit bureaus since Amex reports at the end of the month. Is that true? I thought I had heard differently. The reason I am asking is because I am going to apply for a mortgage at the end of this month and want to make sure my 2 amex accts report a 0 balance.
For me, Amex reports the statement balance on that very same day the statement cuts or the next. If I pay it off beforehand, it'll post the remainder, not the full balance nor does it post what the balance was "at the end of the month." I have the BCE. My statement cuts on the 14th(sh) each month.
Thanks, I will pay the balance in full before Feb 19th just to be safe!!!! I have heard they report the balance after the statement cuts and I still believe that. I have the PR Gold and the Zync.
AmEx reports whatever was my balance on the statement day. Credit bureaus updates file most of the time the next day after the statement day.

Every time I pay AMEX before the statement cuts, it reports a zero balance. I let it post once by not paying before the cut, so I don't think you were given accurate info.
+1
My new Zync card reported $36 on it when I got my first statement, didn't bother to find out its reporting date. Which is a lot lower than my highest balance this month, earned 900 points this month, so they definitely subtract payment amounts received before the statement cuts before reporting the balance.
It might depend on which of thousands of types of Amex cards you have. My old green reports the statement balance on the day after it closes.
