Can anyone tell me if Amex hard pulls a credit report for an upgrade?
I currently have the green card and I'm wanting to upgrade to the platinum.
Thanks,
UM

I upgraded from Gold to Platinum online in May 2009. I was instantly approved and there was no hard pull.
Of course, they soft pull all the time so they might have done one for that too. I decided that the Platinum fee was not worth it to me, so I reverted to the Gold this year. They did it over the phone and sent me the new card with no problems at all.
I'm curious to know how long should I wait to try and do a PC with my Amex, I just got the Zync card so I'm not going to do it anytime soon, but wanted to know what would be a good time frame? Thanks
at least 6 mos IMO.
UPDATE: I called in and was instantly upgraded to the platinum card without a hard pull. The CSR said they determine eligiblity for an upgrade by account status and not through credit history since you're already a member. I received a pre approval message online.
I know this card has a hefty annual fee of $450 but this is the card I wanted so I'm happy I was able to get it and without another inquiry!

AMEX has been trying to get me to upgrade from Gold to Platinum for years; if I did more traveling I would probably get it, since most of the extra perks beyond what I get with Gold seem to be most useful for travelers, and I don't travel enough to justify the higher annual fee.

Can anyone apply for an upgrade online or did you have an upgrade offer pop up online that you then accepted?
The offer kept showing up as a link on the account summary screen.
You can click on the "Apply for a Card" drop down, and it will show cards available for application. When I do that now it shows various cards and my current cards for comparison. Since I went back to Gold, it shows the Platinum and under it "Upgrade Now." So they want me to know I can go back to Platinum if I want.
Soon hopefully i will have mine back!!!! Currently have a 698 FAKO!!!! EX know i wont be appproved only creditor back in the day i never defaulted on!!!! Still shows on my report, and says opened 1987!!!
