Amex backdating?

I was approved for Amex several months ago. Would someone please explain to me backdating? Thanks.

Re: Amex backdating?

Is this your first Amex? If so, all your future cards will be backdated to the year 2012. The month your next Amex card is approved will be the month that is used. For example, if you get another Amex in Jan 2015 then your CR will show the card was opened 1/2012 instead of 1/2015. That's why people try to app early in year for subsequent cards to maximize AAoA gain.

Re: Amex backdating?

Yep, I just got mine backdated to 1993 when the US Gov used them as travel charge cards and issued them to everyone. I'm still waiting for it to report on the CR that way but it is showing up on their website as 1993. I got both my current Amex cards almost 2 months ago, so it's quite a jump.

I thought it didn't work for business issued cards? Different for private vs. public sector?

It may be because the Gov cards had OUR name on them and the bills were sent to each individual, not a company name or agency name. I don't know for sure.

Re: Amex backdating?

Yeah maybe it's the statement going to you. My company charge card also has my name, but I doubt I'd qualify.  I'll ask just the same, yanno, when I can actually get my own AMEX :smileyhappy:

Re: Amex backdating?

I have 2 questions:

1) I have an AMEX Business credit card (SimplyCash) and would like to apply for a BCE early next year. Does backdating work in this case?

2) (Sorry it's a little off topic) I have a 13-year old Cap1 card, and a new Cap1 only 5 months old, what is my chance with Cap1? Did anyone try Cap1 backdating?

Thanks

It's showing as 1993 on their website when I login, and they say that replacement cards have been ordered. I won't believe it is all the way true until I see it show up on my CR!:smileylol:

1. I'm not sure

2. Cap 1 backdate? Probably not, AFAIK Amex only, but as always I'm sure someone that knows more than me will chime in.
