Amex denied, called for RECON and...

[ Edited ]
Applied for the Amex Costco true earnings online. Took a week for Amex to update with costco. I checked online today and Amex said they received app.

I immediately called and asked to check. The csr pushed my app through and said the dreadfull "Unfortunately we will not be able to...yada yada yada." I asked to speak to an account specialist to plead case and the csr said there is not much we can do. I told her there are plenty of people that have gotten reconsidered after speaking to a supervisor. She then replied, "We have recently changed our policies and because of the economy, nobody in the office including my supervisor can manually overide the approval system." I was shocked when see said this. Asked to speak with supervisor anyway. In a nut shell, she told me there are 5 negatives on my Experian report and I need to get those removed. I pleaded my case of 1 is a cc in dispute from 2001, 1 was a cc paid off from 2004, 1 was a 90 day late from a student loan two years ago during consolidation, 1 energy bill with roomie that was paid when found out in 2006, and last 1 disputed University rental agreement from 2003. Basically all were paid except 2 which were disputed. She said unless they were paid or off the report, there is nothign she could do. I asked why do they only pull Experian, because these baddies have been disputed off my Equifax and transunion...and I have proof of that. She replied that they pull from all three but at random. I told her to pull my Equifax then make your decision because not 1 negative item is on it, just a lower score...go figure. She ended with you already have 5 inquiries and that lowers your score and I dont want to do that to you. Please call us back when you get your files updated. This is just ridiculous. 1 of 3 reports show these tradelines and they dont acknowledge them.

In the best Tony Montana voice I can muster up, "Its ok, She'll be back." Message Edited by Hollywood80 on 04-30-2008 10:11 AM Message Edited by Hollywood80 on 04-30-2008 10:14 AM

Amex was a huge Recon people until this latest credit crunch.  The superisors where stripped of a lot of there powers to reverse CLD and override CLI etc.

I think after explaining 2 negatives everything else, to them, sounds like excuses. Everyone knows they mainly pull EX. Just try to wait until the disputes are over and when/if they remove them then reapp. Good Luck!

The Costco card seems to be harder to get than many of their other cards as well-

Does the Amex Costco card provide some kind of benefits over normal Amex cards? Is there extra cash back or something?

Purple is right! not much better than using my Gold card if you ask me.
If I'm getting a store branded card, it better give me more rewards for using it there.
