My mother recently wrote a letter to Amex regarding delinquent account re her 40 year perfect history and dad's illness to point out her lateness in the summer was due to that and to request back statements so she could a) confirm balance since not jibing with her records (she paid $10k between June and August and b) make payment arrangments and keep account open.
On 12/19 she got a letter saying sure can do that, call us and on 12/20 she got a stack of bills that she requested to review. She was planning on revieiwing them today, as trying to do so in the 4 days before Christmas was impossible.
Today (12/26) she got a call from a collection agency (who asked for ALL the AUs on the card not just her which as far as I know is illegal, anyway), so we are trying to contact the person who wrote her back ASAP to explain we did contact him, he did agree, and it has been 4 business days since we got the reply/statements and were preparing to accept the very offer we requested.
