Amex platinum retention

Hi. Has anyone called Amex to try and get a retention offer for the platinum card lately? I just got hit with $550 annual fee and I’m going to call them and see, I was just curious if anyone has had any success. I put $23k through the card in 2017, and 65k in 2016.
Thanks!

I'll be calling them in few days as well. Your chances of getting a bonus are really high, if you have never had a retention bonus in the past.

So far, I have had 40K , 20K and 10K retention bonuses on my platinum.

Re: Amex platinum retention

I recently called about my PRG and I put about the same spend as you and they gave me a retention offer. I'd call and see what they say!

Just called the line myself... got offered $500 statement credit or 50K points. Took the points.

Oh wow, what number did you call and what did u specifically ask them if u don’t mind me asking ? I called the regular platinum customer service rep, and all he offered me was 1500 MR points. I was shocked that’s all they offered. Do you call and ask directly for the retention?

How much spend did you put through it in a year?  Sounds like you didn't use it a lot so they didn't make much money from it.  If that's the case, they probably don't really care all that much to retain.

And what about ibmrad7?  $500/50K implies a high spend!

pretty high spend tbh for the platinum as platinum is meant more for perks than spending at least how I view it.  Think the would of given you better than 1500k MR's although 1500 is better than nothing which alot of people get as wellSmiley Happy

Sorry I just saw these questions.. My minimum spend on it at least 50K, some years it went as high as 80K. They offered 10K points as retention bonus last year but I declined, that also helped in getting 50K this year.
