+1 - this is a good idea and a great way to "protect" yourself... We all make mistakes and things slip by. But with this setup, no worries.

There's also usually a message that tells you to make a phone payment if you are paying after a certain time on the due date.

Just another reminder AMEX updates in real time. If you make a payment right now and look at your balance right after it will reflect payment made at the very moment as long as you pay through the AMEX site.
