Got another alert from Chase tonight. 3rd Chase card with Fraud this holiday season.
This time it was the Freedom. $50 at Walmart.com.
Nothing went through because the expiration didn't match.
the weird thing is that when I called Chase back after getting the alert, they mentioned several tiny charge attempts over the last 45 days that were declined for the very same reason.
Chase never alerted me to those charges.
Makes me wonder how many charges from my other cards have been attempted.
You're definitely having some bad luck with Chase. So far, knock on wood, I've had no problems with my cards nor has my g/f.
Bad luck is right.
Freedom hasn't left the safe in months.
I use it for Visa checkout, my toll tag, sons school lunch account and the My Fico subscription.
when the United card was hit, the rep said that sometimes, they just guess right.
With the quantity of numbers on a card, I would find the odds against guessing pretty high, but what do I know

There's a thread on FT named 'has Chase been hacked again?' It's an ongoing thread because so many people have had their Chase cards compromised. No idea why it seems to happen to them so often. I did have my Ritz used fraudently earlier in the year but they handled it very well. Still a pain in the butt

I've been wondering about this myself lately. I've had 3 cards compromised in 2015, and while each time it was handled quickly and efficiently, hopefully this trend doesn't continue into 2016.
My Chase Freedom has had no fraud alerts or any other card. Fingers crossed.

Physical access to the card is not needed. Numbers can be generated but they can't generate the correct expiry dates or CSC's which is why the attempt you mention has an incorrect expiry. My Freedom had a fraudulent chage before I received it when I had it replaced.
I had a similiar situation happen to me as well with my chase IHG card. The handled it it very quick and professionally. I had my new card with in a matter of days. Apparently the person tried to buy stuff online and it was declined. I also had this happen to my Barclays card.
