Any reason to get a Visa card?

Hello!  I have a (hopefully) quick newbie question regarding getting a new credit card.

Is there any reason (aside from reward programs, which I don't really use at all at the moment) for getting a new Visa card if I already have Amex, Discover, and Mastercard cards, aside from merely being a bit of completionist?

My scores are in the upper 700's, my most recent card is 10 years old, all the other cards are 20+ years, and I'm at <2% utilization.

I'm pretty sure I can easily get a no annual fee Visa from my credit union.

The question is whether I should bother getting that Visa because my Mastercard cards would work everywhere a Visa would.

Or should I just wait until a really good reward card shows up?

No compelling reason at all.  Just wait for a good sign up bonus or rewards card.

Re: Any reason to get a Visa card?

An earlier thread had places that took M/C and not Visa (Sam's Club maybe?)  Are there examples the other way?

Visa has much better rewards cards compared to Mastercard.

Last month when Discover launched Discover IT which attempted to match many desirable features of Visa rewards cards.

Many small merchants do not accept American Express due to larger fees associated with the card

Re: Any reason to get a Visa card?

I think that you could likely get a visa but like you said it's not necessary. If you want to add a visa for completeness then wait for a really good sign on bonus. I do not have a MasterCard but I have found that discover works just fine for retailers such as SAMs club that only take discover and MasterCard

Re: Any reason to get a Visa card?

I'd look for a good sign up bonus on a card that you really want. The Chase Sapphire Preferred is a really pretty card with a nice 40K sign up bonus now. I was able to use my points for a plane ticket and still had over 20,000 left.

Re: Any reason to get a Visa card?

Visa is a global sponsor of the Olympics and is the only brand of card payment that is accepted at all Olympic venues.

Re: Any reason to get a Visa card?

Thanks for the info and advice!  Aside from Olympic venues, it looks like there really aren't any significant businesses or locations that accept only Visa (and no other cards).

So then there's no rush (or reason) to get a new credit card right away.

I was semi-hoping that you guys would talk me out of it.  Smiley Wink
