Tomorrow I am closing on my house and wanted to get a few cards that I have wanted and will use. I currently have 2 Capital One cards (one was Orchard), 2 Emblem cards and a Merrick Bank and a few store cards (Target, Macys, JCrew). I do have a few baddies but nothing in last 6-7 years. I am thinking if I get some decent cards I may close the Emblem cards because they do not do CLIs. I have been really thinking hard and figuring out what I wanted vs what I needed....not always easy. My other issue is for some reason EQ is not updating my reported balances for Sep and Oct. (according to myfico EQ report. TU and EX are fine so my EQ score is lower than it should be so I want to make sure I app with cc's that pull all 3 or only TU and EX. I know I need to find out what the deal is with my EQ but haven't done it yet on the advice from my LO.
Cards I am considering:
Chase Southwest rewards (this is the one I really, really want)
Lowes (app in store or online and recon for higher limit?)
Walmart (strictly for credit score, is it worth it?)
Discover IT (not 100% sure and I did burn them about 18 years ago so not sure if I would get approved anyway)
I was thinking of trying for an Amex revolver with no AF but that would just to be in the AMEX family, again, not sure if it is worth it.
Advice anyone?
Just to add my scores in my signature are from 9/4. I am not 100% sure of what they are since then except for EQ since it is from here and they haven't updated balances. I know my TU score has gone up more according to here as well but not sure of the lender pull. TU on here went up about 35 points since my lender pull. My uti has come down a lot more than when my lender did my pull. I am at about 18% that reported this month.
I think you will be ok with Discover. I got back in with them in about the same time frame. From what I have read Chase is good with reconsideration. If you did wrong to Chase Citi or AMEX your chances are slim to none of getting back in with them.
Back when I was really young the only decent card I had was Dsicover which I did burn. I have never had an AMEX or Chase card.
