Apply for AMEX Blue Cash Everday?

Hi all!

I'm new here, and I just wanted to ask if you guys thought I could be approved for the AMEX Blue Cash everyday card. Here's my info:

I'm 22, about a 55K per year income. I've had credit cards since I turned 18, and my credit was solid until about 2 years ago. During college I had no money and began charging things like crazy and not paying them off (no late payments, but high utilization) - my credit score according to CreditKarma fell to 585 out of 850. Once I graduated and started making money, the first thing I did was pay them all off. My score shot up and is now at 753/850 according to credit karma (average age of lines is affecting me the most, only 3 years since I closed my first CC account). I have a Discover Card ($1750 CL), Barclay Card ($2250), BoA ($3000), Chase Slate ($1500), and Citi MtvU ($2750) and some store credit cards. I really want an AMEX and I like the Blue, so do you guys think I would be approved if I applied? I have no idea how hard it is to get.

Starting Score: 583 (CreditKarma, 2009)
Current Score: 783 (Walmart Free FICO, March 20, 2012), 774 (Equifax, BoA Pull, 2/20/13)
Goal Score: 800+

Re: Apply for AMEX Blue Cash Everday?

I don't think high utilization matters as long as the utilization when you apply is low. And if you made no late payments, I really don't think it'll affect you at all. You can apply for a BCE if you want, and if you get denied you can just try for a charge card and use that for a year or two and apply to the BCE again later to backdate.

As far as the odds of you getting an approval - odds are it's anyone's guess, but the only way to know for sure is to apply. I've always felt like people will get approved for the same cards I got approved for but as it turns out, I was wrong.

Re: Apply for AMEX Blue Cash Everday?

Based on the description of your credit history, I think you have a reasonable chance. Ensure your utilization is low before applying. I agree with what others have said. If you do get denied, apply for a charge card like the Zync.

Good luck and let us know how it goes.

Past UTL isn't an issue, they care about today. You may want to get the trial of myfico an  get a real fico score. In any case the first step is to see if you are pre-selected for any cards, if they have an offer for ap revolvers you may want to take the chance and apply for BCE even if its not a pre-selected. If they have more than one card listed apply for the revolver first if you are applying more than one card. If you are borderline for the revolver, having a brandnew charge card may be too much risk for them to approve the revolver. On the other hand if you get the revolver its a lot easier to get a charge a month or two later especially if you are still pre-selected.

BCE is a harder to get card, the simple Blue is the easiest revolver to get, and they may still be running the special where you got a 10,000 points for spending $500 in the first 3 months, which is equivalent to $100 in resturant gift cards and no AF. So the question comes down to, do you want a revolver today than I would apply for Blue, but you can have only one Blue style card you will have to close and re-apply to get the BCE in the future. If you apply now for the BCE and are denied you have to wait at least 30 days IIRC to app for another card.

But in the end its all just a guessing game as to what AMEX will do.

Re: Apply for AMEX Blue Cash Everday?

It means they either need to verify something (address, income) or have your file manually reviewed. You may get an answer before that time frame. You could also call them tomorrow to check on the status of your application.

Good luck!!!
