Re: Applying for Wells Fargo or Discover CC

Don't understand the hatred for big banks at all. Wells has been quite kind and gracious with me. They have always provided me with options and never have been unkind. My local CU however has always been a hassle and difficult to deal with. They always say they are better, but they never follow through. Wells got as big as they are for a reason.

Starting Score: 650
Current Score: TU 684 / EX 671 / EQ 624- Lender Pull
Goal Score: 725

I think Wells is a very fine bank.

It is well run, conservative, and one of the few who weren't caught during the mortgage crisis.  I would find their deposit accounts, loans, and CDs as compelling as any other bank.

However, their credit cards just suck.

RyVision,

Just wanted to update. I checked the EX report through USAA. It shows all my closed accounts dating back to 1996 (Amex and 2 visas). It even lists my employer - only one that does. EX is definitely the most complete. It also shows 2 inquiries - Macys (December) and my rental property (which was in July). Also, says low balance - it shows $21 balance across the board. It lists low CL and no loans as negatives. AAoA is listed as 9.8 years on EX.

Funny thing: the USAA report shows an inquiry on EQ that myFico did not list.

FAKO PLUS scores are: EX 762, EQ 763, and TU 730.

FICO from myFico are EQ 777 and TU 747.

With this, if you still think that Amex is a good option, I could consider that. Zync or Green, in terms of qualifying? I should add that I have a well above average income, since I figure that's part of the calculation for CL. Although, I do have a low CL problem right now

Well, that's a lot more info LOL.  I'm getting a much better picture of your probable credit profile, at least as lenders might see it.

If you have an above average income (not in the 6 figures, just above average for card holders etc).  It kind of looks like you could pick any card you'd like.  RESEARCH any card you're interested in BEFORE you hit "submit" or apply for one.   To not do so is a mistake.

Look at this link for AMEX, it may or may  not bring up the page you can fill out a for and "View Your Special Offers"  from them.

https://www304.americanexpress.com/credit-card?source=newushp#!view-your-special-offers

The above mostly checks their system to see if you're there.  I don't know if it does a soft pull or not, but it does NOT do a  hard pull for credit (if you didn't know about this already with them).  They may not show anything, but it's really just to check and see if it DOES show you any at all.  You  have a very good AAoA, with good scores, clean history, thicker file than you thought (from what I can remember reading) and low inq's.  You shouldn't have that much trouble getting a decent card with a decent limit, knowing this, I think I'd skip WF.

Re: Applying for Wells Fargo or Discover CC

Thanks, I will check it out if it's not an HP. Income-wise, not quite 6 figures but not too far away either (soon!). I hope that helps in approval. I think any of these companies should really take me; I'm truly low risk. I not in dire need of credit; I just don't have plastic. Hopefully, I can fix all of this soon. I might update what offers are available in a bit but wonder if I should let Cap1 drop to zero before trying although $21 balance is okay too.

Frankly, I wouldn't be shocked if you could get PenFed's Platinum with the 5% off gas paid at the pump.  One of the harder cards to get that exist from what I know (great card though for gas).

You could no doubt get the AMEX Zync, you could probably get BCP (Blue Cash Prefered, though it has a 75$ AF but nice rewards).  Those would both back date to your original AMEX member date too.

Re: Applying for Wells Fargo or Discover CC

I tried the offer page. It says "preselected" for Zync, Green, and Blue. Haha, that's a notch below even "prequalified to apply." :-)

I think that's what they give for a "overqualified" actually.  I didn't get that when I apped for Zync.
