Applied and was instantly approved for Amex Blue Cash Preferred this morning. Hugely excited as this means I have definitely entered primeville as many posters see this as being one of the more difficult cards to be approved for. I want to thank everyone that has given me feedback and advice on this message board, because of you guys I have gone from having no credit file at all in August 2011, to less than one year later being approved for two Amex cards. In ten short months I followed advice of people here, waited patiently, and got what I wanted.
Now it's in the garden for me, I do look forward to asking for a 3X CLI after 60 days of activating the card.
Definitely happy dance time.
We told you so
$4,000. Nicely done. I see that CSP not too far away. ;-)
Congrats.

Congrats ! That's fantastic ! And yes, hopefully they'll bump you up to 12K in 60 days
Whoohoo! Congrats. I'm new to this community, but the advice here has already been so helpful. Looks like you're doing good building your credit!

Congrats on your approval
Thanks so much FrugalRican! The advice I have received has been spot on the whole way. Posters here really know their stuff and have been through it all. The application was super easy as well because I was already a cardmember. Took less than a minute to check the boxes and fill out. So in 2 months I can theoretically ask for a $12,000.00 limit? Wishful thinking but worth a shot if it's only a soft pull.
I can't believe how far I have come in under a year. I want to help pay it forward to anyone else with questions and help with what knowledge I can.
CSP doesn't feel too far away at all now, same with any visa signature or world mastercard
How realistic is it for them to bump me up from 4,000.00 to 12,000.00 in two months? A week ago that limit I would have considered a pipe dream/ He csr on the phone did mention "you do have excellent credit sir and you can absolutely apply for an increase after two months" so that gives me some hope. Amex has never not done something I have asked them for so far. Has been night and day experience wise dealing with Amex compared to Capital One. If Capital One wasn't my only personal non-Amex card I would forever sock drawer it....but until I get a visa/mastercard prime card it will sadly remain in my wallet for when Amex is not accepted. At least I get 1% cash back on Capital One with no annual fee.
Try to push as much as you can through the BCP and PIF.
It's very realistic to get the CLI from 4,000 to 12,000 and even then... they will possibly counter.
Remember, the goal is to get above $5,000
But you got to give that card some good use, responsible use, and try not to make 17 payments in one month. Do whatever you can to make just one payment.
AMEX seems to be odd about seeing a bunch of payments in one month, and not because of FR, but because they tend to average the amount on the payments... some people say it factors into the CLI decision. Whether true or not, who knows, but AMEX is a bear I don't like to pokey the wrong way.

Haha the sick part of me would love to stick it to Chase's "Minimum one year of credit history" policy and show them a NPSL Amex Green card and a $12,000.00 limit Blue Cash Preferred card both acquired in under one year and apply for CSP. If they denied me due to short history I'd probably smile.
I will look forward to the CLI and go from there. The benefit of applying for more prime cards now is that they won't impact my average age of accounts moving forward into the future as much.
