Are Amex AU Apps soft or hard pulls? (if denied)

was thinking about adding my father to help him out. and adding him as an au to my zync.

he has a 2 year care one card with 3500 limit.

no other cards 2 other inq.

nothing else on his report. (only came to america in nov of 10')

sorry searched for this in the search bar but led me to pointless threads from 2006-2008

If he is an AU, any application he submits using his SS, denied or accepted will be a HP until he has his own account with Amex.

So you are asking if he becomes an au, will future apps for him be soft?

I believe they would be hard as additional card holders technically do not have an account with American Express.

Re: Are Amex AU Apps soft or hard pulls? (if denied)

AMEX is a bit different.  They don't have authorized users; they call them additional card members, and the additional card member gets their own number, rather than just their name on your number.  When I added my kids as AC, there was no pull at all.  Simply asked for identity info including date of birth/social security number/relationship.  Kids' files were very thin at the time, but no inquiries showed up on their reports.  This was in regards to an acceptance.  Don't know if the experience would be the same for a denial.

Actually, it's a moot point.  AMEX Zync may not be allowing additional card members now.  I just checked their site to be certain, and got a message that they were not accepting additional memberships and to call the number on the back of the card for any questions.

Re: Are Amex AU Apps soft or hard pulls? (if denied)

thanks guys.

yes i meant as in additional apps.

so if i add him as an au or (additonal card member)

and 2 years from now he apps for a bcp. (im not saying he would get denied.) but if he did would it be a soft pull.

and conclusion of this thread it would be a hard pull since he doesnt have his own account in his name... Correct?

and ok not zync(i have read the rumors/facts on here about zync) say it was a gold or a costco true earning amex.
