It goes down if you pay it off before the next reporting cycle sure. But I'm also glad to hear you'll be paying it down in the very near future. If you can help it, you don't want cards to report UTL that high, its a score tanker. Once I learned that one, I also applied multiple payments. The bank won't care as long as they get paid.
