I have read that asking for an increase on your credit limit can lower your score because an inquiry is conducted to see if you qualify for an increase. However, for one of the credit cards I have, there is an online portal option to "request an increase" which only asks for my annual income. After inputting this, it was instantly determined that my limit could be increased. Does this system also utilize a credit inquiry or will this be something that actually doesn't hurt my score? Also, because I accepted the limit increase, will this be reported as a new application of credit or will my current information just be changed to reflect the new limit? Thanks for the assistance!
Sounds like a GE card maybe you requested? That is a soft pull if anything and it's not a new application.
Some banks pull an inquiry for an increase, some banks don't, and some banks sometimes pull.
