Just had to play with the "check spending" button with AMEX.
Got this result:
"Your inquiry to spend $10000 has been APPROVED. This approval is based on your account information available at this time."

Nice play!
From my experience, Amex would approve spending up to twice your credit limit.

That is what I did. Just checking to see what they will approve over the limit. I think it is also a good way to see how you stand for a CLI. If they aren't willing to approved purchases above your limit, then most likely they won't be willing to approve a CLI.

The button is not a toy, at least that's what Amex claims.
