hello fico friends, I called discover to add an authorized user and also asked if this trade line will report to their bureaus and the, although very nice csr told me that au will not be reported to bureaus only if I add the person as a joint card owner, so I asked for the form for that so as of right now until the form comes in the mail the person is under AU status. So before agreement was final she read of the user agreement message and in themessage it says " before agreeing to adding an additional user just know that this will effect their credit report and score" waaait a minute, hold the phone, I thought I was just told AU don't get reported to the credit bureaus???? Chase said the same, capital one asked for a SSN so I assuming that will definitely be reported. Any suggestions or experience here?? Thank you so much......oops one more question, if I do add him as a joint holder will they have to pull his credit report? And also add the extra inquiries? Thanks sooooo very much in advance.
anyone ?
Thankyou, I was just getting mixed answers on the search engine on this forum, some stated that a law passed where AU can't benefit from the primary card holders clean history. I was also concerned because my brother lives out of state. I just don't want to add him as a joint holder because that will give him extra inquiries that he doesn't want and he may have a chance of getting denied the card if they pull his report, you know?
Thank you, I do feel a little bit better, he's got score watch....so if he doesn't get notified of the new trade line being added by the time the joint account forms come in, I'll just keep him as AU, I know different banks do different things. Keeps us on our toes.
CSR's don't always know what the heck they're talking about. Most of them do not know what an AU is.

I had a Wells Fargo CSR on the line and He didnt know what the difference between a Soft pull and hard pull was. His title was credit specialist. I would call again just to see if you can get two of the same answers. Best of luck on getting a straight answer!

Yes, a lot of places do report AU, and while that can be good, it doesn't make much logical sense to me! The primary user is legally responsible for the debt, and so in theory only he/she she is responsible for late or on-time payment, so I don't see why person X paying on time or being late should have any impact on person Y's credit score.
