Authorized user question?

hi all,

Does anyone know if being an authorized user on a family members card can help you get a 2nd chance with that creditor if you had burned them in the past?

Re: Authorized user question?

Unfortunately i dont think it would. Only because the primary account holder is the one responsible for making sure the bill is paid.

Re: Authorized user question?

That's tough. It depends on who the Creditor is, how bad/recent the burn was and the AU's current credit profile. Without knowing the inner workings of a creditor, the AU will be shooting in the dark just like any other applicant.

Re: Authorized user question?

Synchrony/walmart. They show up on my report as charged off debt and it should be removed by the end of the year. My highest score right now is 605 trans,593 experian and 563 equifax. I have been wanting to apply for the walmart or amazon card as my first unsecured card but seeing as they are still on my report i am worried i will be denied. Thats why i was wondering if it would help being an authorized user on someone elses account.

Re: Authorized user question?

I'm going to say probably not.  I am an AU on my husbands Chase Freedom card and they denied me when I applied for my own card.  From what I understand Chase and CITI are the hardest to get back in with and I believe it.

Nope.  Or at least, don't count on it.

Re: Authorized user question?

Yeah I don't believe that being an authorized user carries a lot of weight in terms of app'ing for cards. I was an AU on 2 of my fiancees cards and they still denied me when I app'd.

Re: Authorized user question?

I think the only real benefits to being an AU are AAoA and utilization
