BEWARE! Discover dropped my CL for no reason!

I just noticed that Discover DROPPED my credit limit from $1800 to $550! I opened my account in June, and have paid down to nearly a zero balance on-time each month (I let under 5% report each month). I have no idea why they would do something like this but my utilization just skyrocketed!!! Anyone have a similar experience? I'm currently holding for an account specialist because the first tier support person was perplexed.......

Re: Discover dropped my CL!

Update: They said my overall util is too high! Like I said, I keep it under 5% and it is reported on all of my statements!! I feel robbed!! What can I do to fix this situation? They state they can't do anything. I'm ready to close this account and be done with Discover forever! What a joke!

Re: Discover dropped my CL!

Another update: I spoke to a manager who said my account went through a "periodic review" and that "at this time, $550 is all we can lend you". She initially stated that I've opened too many new accounts and that my utlization is too high. Both untrue. I've been gardening since I opened my Discover card, and again my util is under 5%.Then she put me on hold and came back to say I was correct AND added that nothing on my credit report has changed since I opened my card, but sorry, right now $550 is all they can do. UNREAL! This card is utterly useless to me now. I was a huge fan of them. Now I want to close my account and take my business elsewhere. BEWARE!!!

I think we're clear on the beware warning by now. Are you saying your util on your Discover card is always under 5% or is it your overall util including all cards thats consistently under 5%? I cant tell from your post.

Do what you will. Creditors don't typically act unprovoked.

+1?

I'm thinking the rep meant overall UTL and not the Discover card

Before you app think...
Have you done your research of the CC?
Does it fit your spending?
Do you have a plan for the bonus w/o going into debt?
Can you afford the AF?
Do you know the cards benefits? Is it worth the HP?

And if you were under 5% on Discover, that means the balance was under $90.   So now it will be under 16%, was is not ideal but hardly terrible.

Re: BEWARE! Discover dropped my CL for no reason!

The first condescending responses I've ever recieved on this board. I suppose I am due for some since it looks like everyone gets a lashing eventually. Even those who are respectful of each and every person here. Glad everyone is crystal clear. I'm just sharing my experience.

Anyway, my util for all cards is 5% or under. Further, the rep went back to review my credit reports. No new accounts as originally listed on this computerized review they've conducted, and not a single change on my credit report since approval other than a higher score thanks to a baddie aging off. Their final answer is that they couldnt give me an answer.

I know you said you haven't opened any cards since Discover but were all tthe cards you opened before then reporting already when you applied with Discover?

What is your overall utlizations? Have you pulled your reports just now to confirm nothing has changed?
