Hey all, I am in the process of rebuilding my credit. Bank of America told my girlfriend on the phone that adding me as an AU on her card would not help my score. Very confused!!!!
Total lie. My father-in-law added me to his Bank of America card on 9/3/12, it reported to my reports on 9/26/12 and bumped me about 51+ points.
I was thinking that myself, I was added anyway just to see. If im not reported what damage can be done right!
+1 S7
They needed my SSN, so there must be some report done
i made my my brother a AU on my bofa card and they didnt ask for his SSN so does that mean it wont report to his CR?
They didn't ask for mine either when my father-in-law added me, but he made the CSR take it.
they could be telling the truth if they're going by internal scoring, but remember most credit customer service is hit or miss, there is no class they are required to take, and have minimal to no training and they're definately not going to cover things about FICO. Anyways it does help with all Fico scoring models.

I think the rep is confused. Adding AU does boost your FICO credit score (some credit scores do exclude AU). However every time your CR went through a manual review (like credit card reconsideration and mortgage) AU account will be excluded/ignored.

I dunno how true that AU acccounts will be excluded and ignored. I had friends get declined for cards, I added them as an AU and a couple months later they were declined and reconned in even tho they couldn't recon before being added so ymmv. personally I assume every credit "specialists" or service reps are complete idiots til proven otherwise since they give out a lot of bad tips like saying AU doesn't help your score. Personally I think they just look and don't even know what an authorized user is in most cases. My friends have limited credit history but mine are limited as well. about 14months of good history, still got approved for CSP Freedom Amex BCP with 758 score. I also manage 6 cards for my family and started them at the sametime and we're all AU's to eachother. Still only average 14 aaoa oldest card only being 2 years old
