Barclay Credit card and Payments Holds

Cap One did the same thing to me too, the funds would post but they'd wait DAYS if not WEEKS before the available credit was put back to normal.

Mind you I wasn't close to maxing it and paid it in full but it kind of irked me and cost them points in my eyes, it's one of the many reasons I don't use them.

Barclays I have no experience with and can't comment, I can just tell you that they aren't the only ones doing this.

I should mention too, my regular bank with my checking account I also have the Visa through, and I post a payment on there from my account and it's typically updated the next day.

Banks that hold it for WEEKS are ones I would want to lose in a hurry.

I am now experiencing the same issue.  I have been making $6,000 payments like its going out of style and those payments were never held except for the first time I made one.  Now Barclays has held my last two payments one for $600 and another for $1100 for their security for 7 business days.  It makes no senses and the only answer I am given is the computer decides and no human can override it.

what have the people in this forum decided is the answer here?

This just happend to my wife and I on several of our cards (her 2 Cap One's, Barclay and Merrick and my Merrick). Never had this problem until now. Had been 7 days since the payments which by the way cleared my bank the next day.to Merrick and was told by them when I called that they 'randomly' place up to 12 day hold on payments. Getting ready to go on vaca and this is the card I would be using so only way to get them to release hold was to fax copy of our bank info to show the paymet had cleared.

Personally I think they 'float' the funds to make their portfolio look better. They have the money, you don't. They can use it, you can't!

Does not matter if a bank is a foreign or domestic bank. To do business in the U.S. they have to abide by U.S. banking regulations on those accounts.
