I don't intend my commen to be confrontational, but I do think it a valid question/observation: Why do many myFico members app for credit cards they intend to use only once or maybe twice a year? Can't those purchases be absorbed well on one of the other (usually many) cards owned? And if no use after more than 6 months why be upset it is getting closed since it seems there is no intention of using it anyway? Now, if they closed a card after 3 months of non use I understand the frustration. But at 6 months of non-use I'd close out inactive accounts too; it's a business to make money not tie it up indefinitely. It seems many people open cards just to have total utlization lowered, not to actually use the CL given on a regular basis.

I opened my Barclay with the intent of using it. I even got a notice on my first statement that I would get a CLI after the fifth billing statement. That never happened. So I SDd the card and moved on. I think it was Capital One that made me want more than I needed, since they wouldn't even give me what I needed. That experience left me also considering which companies were going to be good for me and which were not. When Barclays did not give me the CLI after the fifth month, I realized that they might not be the best card in my prtfolio, or even a good card in my portfolio. I have used the card recently because of the bonus rewards for dept. stores during the holidays. So there is a definite use for the card, but only during certain periods of the year and only for certain things. I will only use this card for certain things and see about upgrading at some point when it is allowed. I have yet to hear they will PC a card for certain. I tried that already and was told no.

The priceline.com card clearly states if you don't use it for 6 months they can close it, or take away your earned rewards. Whereas for the Sallie Mae Rewards card it is 13 months of inactivity.
I don't see any problem with this, if a person is actually intending to use the cards
If banks have to guarantee credit lines, inactive accounts may not be a great use of funds.

It can make sense to app for cards just for the bonus, and cards with large bonuses, such as CSP, are particularly attractive, even if you never intend to travel, transfer points etc, just $400 in free money.
I do agree with you that if you don't use the card, why get upset about it being closed? But you do answer your own question, some people app to increase the total CL, either for utilization or just to have a big CL, but have no need to use the card. Then getting it closed undoes the benefit. (And yes, if you are in that situation, make sure to spend from time to time on the cards you really want opened).
Apping just for the cards you will use is nice, but not the only way, and in some cases people find the card much less useful than they expected.

I got mine to buy an apple computer. Every year or so they say they will close it if I don't use it, so I use it.
Barclays has been really good to me. They were the first company to give me a decent starting CL of 750. Up until then, I only had a 300 secured card, and a 300 limit FP card. I've called in a few times and each time they've been pleasant. I asked for a CLI and was denied, but the analyst gave me some helpful advice as far as what to do with my credit in the next 6 months to see the best results CLI wise. Plus, the rewards aren't bad. Making payments is easy, and their Android app is better than most.

I had a pretty similar experince as you did. They were my first real card and was denied my cli but they person was nice and helpful. Im only scared that they will close my card cause I added two new accounts.... But If i use my card almost everyday and pay on time everytime how could they close it?
