I have a Barclay Card that I got for the intention of making an Apple store purchase. I put $1100 on it, getting the 12 months with no interest. I made my first $100 payment on Jan 1.
I got a letter in the mail this week that said they are lowering my limit to $1350. They had a few reasons. One of them was that I opened new tradelines or increased my available credit elsewhere. ugh.
I'm irritated, because this decrease in my credit line makes the ratio so much more worse. I know it was already bad when I had $1100 out of $2000. Not I have roughly $1000 out of $1350 (after my payment).
Has this happened to others?
They don't like new accounts too much.
Yeah that sucks.
I guess I will pay the card off, then SD it. I may keep it around in case I want another 0% purchase. But oh well, live and learn.

Thanks!

I feel your pain, they didn't lower my CL they completely closed my account. I was with Barclay for a total of 2 months.

Yep they are VERY sensitive to new accounts. Note to self: If you don't want adverse action from them, DO NOT app for anything else for at least 6 months to a yr. The longer the better.
And you should heed your own advice to prevent any future AA issues with them. Barclays is just one of the quirkiest lenders, if not finicky, when it comes to this.
Good to know about this. I have a Barclay Apple card that I got approved for a Macbook Pro I bought three months ago. CL is low and APR is high, so I just plan to use it for 0% Apple purchases. Just a few weeks ago I went on a very successful app spree in which I got onboard with AMEX, Chase, Discover, and GE. If Barclay pulls this crap on me I'll call a backdoor number and demand an explanation, and if they insist, I'll never use the card again. I'll just make my Apple purchases through Amazon and use GE's Amazon card 0% financing.
It would be a shame as I was planning on getting the Arrival as a travel card, I'd just look elsewhere for a no international transaction TL.
