Barclays CLI Question

So I've called the number on the back of the card several times in the past 2 months to inquire about the APR reduction and possible SP CLI, each was told by the relationship specialist that my account was not "eligible". Is this in fact true or is this because I was never offered to be transfered to another department like most folks on here I've seen. I hate to try again if my account is indeed not "eligible" at this time.

Re: Barclays CLI Question

In my experience, getting transferred to the retention department has been a requirement to get the CLI/APR reduction.

Re: Barclays CLI Question

They say that becasue they are checking their screens and not transfering you.  I got in the first time and was transfered right away, call dropped and it took me almost two hours of calling trying to get back there.  They see nothing becasue they actually cannot see anything and they apparently do not know what the retention department even does.

I did find the trick though, I call and do not tell the rep what I want.  Just call and say "I'm calling for the retention department, can you please transfer me there?"  They will ask why, I tell them I was just told to talk to them and needed to get it touch.  Regarding what?  "Oh, nothing, something only they can help with, please transfer me."  Worked for me!

At times even if you say APR reduction they will try to do it themselves.  So I never tell them what I want.

Re: Barclays CLI Question

I just tried your method before the edit, she said she couldn't transfer me unless I had an offer on my account. I find them to be the most difficult to work with in regard to ...everything.

Re: Barclays CLI Question

Hang up and call again!  I do believe the retention department has limited hours though so it might be too late to get them right now.  Believe me, that day I was trying to get back to the department I HAD ALREADY BEEN TALKING TO I was about to pull out my hair.  Finally just would not tell them on my last call, said I'd only talk to retnetions and that worked.

I will try tomorrow! Thanks for the info!
