Hmmm...I guess that makes me think. AMEX blue sounds about what I'm shooting for. Mainly will be for groceries, gas, cash back (as mentioned).
Per longtimelurker's clarification, you're looking at the Amex Blue Cash Everyday (BCE). Definitely think it's a great choice especially if youre pretty committed to beginning your relationship with Amex (BofA has a 3% gas 2% groceries 1% everything else card, so gas/groc is flipped). Later on in the game, you could go for an EveryDay card or a Premier Rewards Gold (PRG) card -- ether one will open up Amex's Membership Rewards portal for you.
Best of luck with whatever you decide, and if you do apply, good luck!

Off topic, but my new pet peeve! This card is the Amex Blue Cash Everyday. Amex Blue Cash is a (very!) different card.
I would suggest a Sallie Mae Rewards Mastercard, instead of the Blue Cash Everyday that longtimelurker mentions. unless you are purchasing groceries for a family. And even for a family, if both parents obtained a Sallie mae card, that would be better than the BCE.
Expected yearly cash back rewards based on your spending habits:

BofA, Citi, Capital One, Amex, and many others have a link which will suggest cards to you with a soft pull. If you don't get any prequals it doesn't mean you wont get the cards, but if all say no prequals it might be harder. The Capital One Quicksilver might be a good option, the one without the Annual Fee. They will probably pull from all three bureaus, so figure out two three options to try first. GE can be easy to get you started, maybe the PayPal MC could be a good one or Walmart.
You might want to head over to Credit Karma, Credit Sesame, and Quizzle to investigate, for free, what your reports look like. Don't rely so much on the scores, just the info.
Remember it does take time to get the best cards, so don't be sad if you don't get what you want right away. Make a list of a few you would really want, a few which are good, and afew which are OK. Try one or two of the ones you really want. then revise your plan from what happens.
