Best CC to apply for with FICOs in mid- to high 600s?

I applied for Discover Miles and was declined.  (Am now off the window ledge and back typing frantically on the computer trying to be proactive....)  I don't want my next CC app to give me another decline and inq hit. My EX is 677 (pre-Discovery rejection).  I haven't checked TU and EQ.  My TC FAKOs are 680s.

BTW...unlike what seems to be the general tenor here, I'm having marvelous luck with LexLaw.  So far 5 negs deleted.

Signed,

After you got declined from Discover did they offer you a HSBC Direct Rewards Discover card?

Mmmh when I got declined from Discover a few years back they offered me that card. Try checking the Discover app status or the HBSC app status because then if you do get that card at least you have gained one card without another hard pull.

I applied by phone.  The rep simply told me that I was declined and "sorry."  How do I check the app status?  And thank you very much for the feedback.

Scores alone don't give enough info to provide much input.

What derogs remain?

What positive TL's do you have?

What is your income?

Do you have any personal or family relationship to the military or DoD, past or present?

Hi, txjohn,

2-year old CO still on there from CapOne (paid in full);

Positive (perfect) TL: mortgate, autolease, HSBC ($500 CL), school loan;

All late payments more than 2 yrs old;

$120K income;

Husband was in army.

Appreciate all this sage advice.

Welcome to the forums.

That CO is hurting you. You might try a GW (Good Will) letter to Cap 1 to have it deleted.

About those late payments. How many were there? Were they 30 days late? 60? 90? That can make a big difference.

If you can qualify, then you need NAVY FEDERAL CREDIT UNION!!!!!!

NFCU is the most lenient, most generous and best credit source of any CCC/lender that you could hope for, especially coming back and rebuilding.

In another post on this forum I explained how I had a 680-ish FICO on EQ, an old CA plus several tax liens and was approved for $7500 instant approval at NFCU.
