doesn't matter DV's can help even after it's paid off, it seems backwards but it can and does work at times.
Regardless is a collections reporting or capital one directly? if so try a 623 to OC, DV to CA, and disputes to all CRA's. Often many companies will just delete cause it's easier to delete than to try to dispute with you especially when everything's paid already.
I got every single derogatory item deleted and I paid 3 at the time. How? They all violated the law in one time or another.
