Best amount of time between use and payment??

I just recently paid off the majority of my credit card debt but I want to make sure I keep using the cards so they can help my credit. If I use one of my cards for gas and then pay it off immediately that day, am I still getting the benefit of using that card or do I need to let the balance register for a couple of days before I pay it off?

thank you

As long as the company that owns the card knows you use it, they will be happy

FICO seems to like a balance to be reported on one card, then Piff it so you don't have to pay interest

The slide from grace is really more like gliding
And I've found the trick is not to stop the sliding
But to find a graceful way of staying slid

Some cards won't let you pay if there is a zero balance, and sometimes it takes a couple of days for a charge to show up in the register.  No need to pay the same day.  Once a week is fine.
