I put in a request today to upgrade my old student credit card to a Cash Rewards card. I asked the rep if the new card will be backdated to the opening date of the old card. She replied that they keep all history on their file even when upgrading to a new card. The new card will have 2015 on it, but the old history will still be there. Does that mean my new card will be backdated? This is my oldest CC and losing this would greatly hamper my AAoA.
If it's simply a product change it will report the original date to the CRAs, no impact on AAoA.
Is going from Platinum plus visa to Cash Rewards card considered a product change,
yes
If the card number changes on the new card, will it still be backdated?

yup
It will say on the CR the account number changed but everything else is still that same.
PC always stay with same opened acct and member since. i had a world points visa and did a PC to cash rewads and nothing else change exept the card and rewards. thats all
PC has absolutely no effect on age of the account. My oldest account is my CSP, which dates back to 1991. It was originally a First USA Visa, then when First USA was bought out by Chase, it converted to a Chase Visa, then a Chase Gold Visa, then a Chase Platinum Visa, then it became a Chase Sapphire, and finally--for the first time at my request--it converted to my current CSP. It still shows up on my reports as issued in 1991.
