I think you should be able to get a Walmart card. Also, you understand your situation better than anyone else, but don't be afraid of credit cards with a limit of higher than 1k. Just because the credit is available, doesn't mean you have to use it. A high balance is just a reward for being responsible with your credit. What better way to get very favorable mortgage rates than to show them you have high balances that you can manage. My highest limit card is $17,000 and I've never more than $1100 on it.
