Re: Bye Bye Credit One

Thank you, ItsPossible! I remember your first post, and when I read through it your profile was so similar to mine, except your BK was older and your scores were higher than mine at the time. I just couldn't imagine you not getting approved for Discover. I'm so glad you did and got a really nice SL, which proved the other poster wrong. One of my goals on here is to be encouraging, without being unrealistic. BK was one of the most humiliating things I've gone through and a lot of people that come on here just need a kind, encouraging word. Smiley Happy

Whew! I just closed my Credit One account, er, at least I'm pretty sure I did! The call quality was very scratchy once I was transferred to an Account Specialist. He kept pointing out that I had paid the $75 AF and it won't cost me anything to keep the card until May of next year. He offered me a $36 statement credit that would post within a few days, that I would be able to use with no obligation to Credit One. I didn't expect that one. I let him know that I had outgrown the card now that I have $12800 in credit, and that I wouldn't be using it with just a $600 SL. Did not offer me a CLI. Nope. Did not offer to waive the next AF. Nope. I finally heard him agree to close my account, yay!

Credit One has served its purpose, and I am happy to be free of knowing I will have to close it eventually. The only bummer is that it was actually my lowest APR at 20.15%, but without a substantial SL even that was useless. I feel like I've hit a major rebuilding milestone, and am ready to move forward! Smiley Happy

Good job getting rid of one of the worst companies in the business.  If you're rebuilding, I hope you're doing everything possible to PIF every month.  The APR should not even be an issue.  Keep an eye on your statements to make sure they don't try and pull a fast one on you and add some bogus charge.  They are known to do that sort of thing when people try to escape their clutches.

Thanks! Yes, I've been paying in full. I only got charged interest one time with Capital One because I accidentally didn't. That was a real eye opener! It's amazing how much interest can be tacked on to a fairly small balance with a 24.99% APR. I won't make that mistake again! Smiley Happy

Congrats Bella!!! So happy for you!!! You deserve to move on! Woo Hoo!

Btw, I just want to say, on my very first post on MyFico, you were the first person to post with a kind word.Somone else posted right before you and was very discouraging. It was really off-putting for a new member who was just starting to rebuild their credit.  But you were so kind and it really made me feel so much better. Because of you and my best friend, I applied for the Discover It. So glad, I did. I have really used that card.  So, thanks again!!!!

Awww that's so sweet!

Congrats, Bella. From other stories I have read it sounds like you got off fairly easily. There really should be some recourse for dealing with these predatory lenders. Like an agency that you could report them for refusing to close and then they make them do it.

That's kind of why I said I think I closed it, lol! I'm not sure if they will try to pull anything. They haven't sent me a confirmation email, which I forgot to specifically ask for. I might have to call again. We will see...
