Hmmm
My mother has the United Mileage Plus (I believe that's what it's called?) and it's still showing hers as active last time I checked in with her via text. She has two Chase cards, but the Freedom was just terminated.
@CreditCuriousity wrote:Yep more is coming... Normallly not a person that worries but wow, they hit your mom too? So GC and not wanting to honor bonus is what appears to be setting them off along with 5x categories? What is the point of having 5x, bonuses if you spend x dollars, etc!
This is really worrying... Have they changed the way transactions are reported? How do they know it was a gift card? Hmm... just interesting.

Looks like Freedom is going to be my "Slate" -- This is what were using the wife's Freedom for.
Probablem is it is 0% apr...so they still aren't making money off of us lol
Also, the Freedom is capped, so the most you can get in a yearin 5x rewards is $300 (worth more if UR, but perhaps cheaper to Chase) It's the uncapped cards that have seen the most vigorous shutdowns in the past.
So Chase may target those that are worth less to them than the possible $300 a year, but still very hard to understand why this would be a good move for a $50 BB gift card.
I'm sincerely hoping this is just a mistake on Chase's part. If not, they won't be seeing a new customer next year from me.
Definitely keep us updated, OP.

@CreditCuriousity wrote:Time to buy some gas on my freedom and hope this offsets it and I fly under the radar.. Obviously amazon tracks GC to chase, especially being a $100 exactl amount w/no tax..... Least it was sent to another state and address which shows it wasn't for me!
Ohhhhhh, interstate mpney laundering and mail fraud! Expect the FBI real soon.
As I've said before, IF crackdowns happen, YOUR intentions don't matter. If buying a gift card is bad, the CCC doesn't care what you say you intended for, their rewards burden is the same. Volume should matter, but nothing to prevent MS sending cards to lots of confederates to cash out.
But if you believe the latest thread, a $50 BB gift card triggered a Chase shutdown.
LTL can't tell if you are serious or joking on the last part.... Think it is something different?
Believe it. In the search for a trigger, when the credit team has a goal of $X credit to shut down, once you give the troops the go-ahead to use GC as a trigger, any GC will do.

Chase will tell you "You have nothing to worry about, dear customer. Just don't do these trigger transactions to shut your account down."
Customer: "What are those triggers?"
Chase: "We'll let you know by shutting the account down"
