CSP able to PC to CSR after AU bonus?

Hey all!

I'm sure you've seen my recent posts about me wanting to get the CSP and being Pre-aporoved in branch for it.

After doing some research, I definitely want to get the CSR for the 50% UR redemption (vs the CSP's 25% UR redemption).

My question is, does anyone know if I can apply for the CSP, add my girlfriend as an AU to get the free 5k UR points then PC to a CSR after riding out the first free year?

Cheers!

Re: CSP able to PC to CSR after AU bonus?

After the first year, yes you could PC it to the CSR (law states that the AF can not increase during the first year so can't PC before then)

Re: CSP able to PC to CSR after AU bonus?

How would that work with the annual fee hitting on the 2nd year?

I'd be hit with the $95 annual fee of the CSP, would that just be taken off the $450 I'd owe for the CSR?

There is no way around needing to keep the CSP for a year?

I'd like to use my UR points on a trip within the first year at the 150% per point, not 125%

Cheers!

Re: CSP able to PC to CSR after AU bonus?

Nope there is no way to PC to a higher AF card in the first year. We are not talking about a chase policy, this is a federal law.

Thank you.
Now to answer the first part:

How would that work with the annual fee hitting on the 2nd year?

Re: CSP able to PC to CSR after AU bonus?

Most likely but there have been reports of people not getting hit with the $450 AF until the next time the AF was due. However, these people were months away from the AF due

That's what happened to me. I PCed my CSP to the CSR in December and was just assessed the $450 AF for the first time for the CSR

You might want to look into transferring points instead of booking through Chase.
Chase Sapphire Preferred ($24.005k), Fidelity VS ($17K), United MileagePlus Explorer ($17K), Chase Freedom ($15K), Chase Freedom Unlimited ($15K), AmEx Blue Cash ($12.5K), IHG One Rewards Premier ($6.1K), US Bank Cash+ ($5K)

Re: CSP able to PC to CSR after AU bonus?

I got my CSP in July 2015. Just before July 2016, the anniversary date, I downgraded to the regular Sapphire (only available via downgrade). So I was able to avoid the CSP $95 fee. January 2017 I PC'd to the CSR. I have no idea when they are going to hit me with the CSR annual fee. I am guessing in July 2017 since that is the anniversary date.

That's what would I would expect but here's what happened in my case.  Got CSP 12/2014 and was assessed my first AF in December, 2015.  PCed CSP to CSR 12/16 and I expected the AF to hit then but the $450 AF didn't show up until May, 2017 statement.  So I'm not sure how they are doing it exactly.
