Hello! Two days ago, Chase notified me and asked if an attempted charge was mine. It was not so they cancelled my card and over-nighted me new ones. I'm wondering on my credit report, if they'll just replace the card number or will it begin a whole "new" account? I really like where I am and don't want it to look like a whole new card was opened up.
Thanks in advance!
They will change the number but your account will probably stay the same (age, opening date, etc). If unsure, just send them a secure message or call them.
Well that's what I'm hoping for! I've learned over the years, however, that a lot of credit card company customer service reps know very little about CR reporting. :/
That's true - but I believe your account will remain the same, just account number changed. Let us know when you review your report next time.
I am reallly bad about losing things and have lost cards several times including a CSP they just give you a new account number and nothing on your report changes
I had a similar problem with my Chase/Amazon.com card, with somebody in Australia (I live in Ohio) trying to charge $412 on my account. Chase sent me a new card with a new account number, but everything else stayed the same (CRA's, online "tie-in" with my other Chase checking/credit accounts).
Thanks, all. I'll let you know. I received a text that someone tried to charge $657 at a Footlocker in Virginia...I live in NY. It was a swiped card! I don't know how these criminals do it. Chase sent me an envelope to return my old cards, I assume to "make sure" they're still in my possession? Ah well, I'm glad I'm protected but wondering where the security hole was where someone could obtain my entire number!

Or they're made of metal and don't want you hurting yourself by trying to destroy them yourself.

As indicated above: new number, same account. It's typical for fraud situations like this and not just with Chase.

If it was swiped then they cloned it.

It's because a lot of people have problems destroying the CSP. You don't have to mail it back. It's provided as a convenience.
