Ugh I'm at 5/24 until Sept 2017 and there isn't a branch that is particularly close to me. One finally opened just over an hour away in another state. I wish I could just call and ask about pre-approval instead of driving all the way there on a hope and a prayer just to apply for a credit card. However, I already feel I got robbed on my CSP since they changed to 50K a month after I got the card so I missed those points. I'd be really butthurt to miss 50K pts.Road trip!
I know, I know, but the only thing I could do in that town and along the way is road trip for a restaurant. My DH now works Saturdays so he can't take me. I'm pregnant and last week I passed out while driving so a bit apprehensive to make the trip on my own. Especially if I eat since that's what leads to my fainting. I should have gone last month, but I usually feel like just resting on my days off. I was hoping it would last until next Fall so I could nab the card in natural course. I don't want to be a bonus chaser, but we really enjoyed our CSP for the last year and managed to get 3 RT flights out of it. That's worth the AF for us. I'm not quite the CSRs target demo, but we'd like to travel more and had just started before I got pregnant. I'd love to try it for a year or two to see how it works for us.
Good luck with the baby. Your health is more important than a credit card. There will be other 100k offers coming around.

It may be too late for CSP, but for your future reference if you don't already know, Chase will often match offers if you ask them to do so via secure message (or at least they used to). Had you contacted them to request an extra 10k a month after your approval for a 40k bonus, you may have gotten the points.
@CreditCuriousity wrote:This really sucks.. Chase continues to make life rough for alot of people.. People hoping to be under 5x24 to get the 100k UR's.. It is still a good card for many and still considering to PC my CSP to the CSR and just ignore the bonus and earn UR's at a higher rate which makes it a 150 AF card after travel expenses. Probably will PC it in a few months.
Feel bad for those that were trying to get under 5x24.. Kinda like Chase is pushing away customers as alot will say screw it and start to apply for other cards such as Merrill with $500 cash or $1000 airfare credit and other cards that have decent sign-up bonuses with NO annual fees.
If you have a decent amount of spend eating out and traveling then this card certainly is still a good card, just losing out on $500...
Am losing out on a lot more than $500 missing the 100K bonus in my case, but I realized this was the right card regardless.
Decided this morning just to PC the CSP, and close the IHG after moving 21.5K from it and the AF is basically a wash and I come out ahead as soon as my passport comes in the mail for this year at least. Even if it weren't for the travel gig, dating in the ~30-45 set with no kids in my case, card is an easy decision... with the international travel gig, after doing the math didn't even make sense to chase the Citi bonus currently.
I'll be more than OK with a CSR even missing out on the 100K UR, the money in the long run just isn't going to make a difference to me financially in absolute terms, and if I start playing the bonus game missing one isn't the end of the world. Actually, even if I don't, this doesn't rate... rather it's something to not GAF about.

@Saleen099 wrote:My question is what will happen to the Chase Sapphire preferred card bonus will it stay the same or will that would be reduced?
would assume the same... targeting two different market segments or spend IMO.. CSP is a travel card don't get me wrong, but the CSR is going for a bit of the bigger spenders aka AF scares off alot of people that might of only paid that for the one time bonus then cancelled after a year or downgraded to CSP after year.
Guess I should go look at breakpoints again but if we leave out bonuses I'm having a hard time justifying the CSP for literally anyone if they're able to finesse the $300 travel credit which just isn't that hard with Chase's liberal definitions of travel.
Also if dating profiles on Plenty of Fish and Match are to be believed, something like 95% of women take at least one trip a year seemingly... admittedly I think this is a bit of advertising of what you want rather than what you do but still.

Will be PC'ing mine sometime this month as well.. My 95$ AF just hit for the CSP so figure mise well do it and earn at a higher UR rate and take the 300 travel credit which pretty much as you stated can easily used making it a difference since I just paid my 95 dollars of a whopping $55 dollars. Just need to hop on the phone and make the call.. Use the Rtiz alot for dining although the CSP would of been a better choice, but had to keep at leaste 10k a year on ritz for gold met that last year and a good chunk already since Nov when it reset last year for this year so will shift alot of spending being eating out as that is a huge portion of my spend 1k-2k a month to CSR. So lets just say I eat out 1500 a month that would be 1500x12(months)x3xUR's = 54000 UR's. Not to bad for basically a 150 AF in my scenario example. This isnt taking into ocnsideration other spend that would go on it as well at 3x.

I think you're definitely making the right decision but we got to talk about this going out to eat spending a little too much. LOL
So for someone planning to apply in branch, does anyone think the odds of getting approved will be better or worse after January 12th?

Won't change the odds.. If you are under 5x24 in branch it will be the same after that date.. If you are pre-approved in branch and over 5x24 you are pretty much golden.

We need to hang out It sucks not to be able to get the 100K but stop delaying and PC to that bad boy. As you know, I did and have earned a lot of URs from my Australia trip, eating out and general use.
Ill add one thing to the whole 5/24 debate and that is if Chase was so concerned about churners, etc then they would have never allowed people to bypass the rule by in branch preapprovals. The people that know about this bypass are the readers of the various credit forums and by nature tend to be churners. Very selective enforcement of the 'rule'.
