I would learn to learn from others in the same boat as me. I am currently jobless and have 4 credit cards and 3 stores cards.... I am going to list my cards, feel free to do the same. Ask questions and offer advice when you can
BOA AmeriCard****** $500(First CC, was opened mid 2011 as a secured card with $500 limit.. Just got back the deposit about three months ago)
Amazon Chase*******$1500
CapitalOne Journey**$1500
Discover It************$750
Store Cards
JCP******************$1000
Macys****************$1000
Old Navy**************$450
I got the chase, discover and CapOne on the same day which was March last year. I have requested for CLI for both CapOne and Discover and was turned down without inquiries. Chase and BOA insist they would have to run full inquiries. I have 8 inquiries on TransUnion, I am waiting for 3 to fall off before I apply for any more cards.
No
I'm no expert, but here is my advice....don't use any card and get a job ASAP!
My two cents would be to not destroy your credit because of unemployment. If you can pay the bills while jobless, charge away. If you can not however, and dig yourself deeper into a hole each month, stop right now. It is not worth it to ruin your credit.
As at when I got the BOA secured card I had a Job.... So I reported what I earned which was almost nothing. As for Other cars I report between 12 and 17k...
I have these cards does not mean I go about stunting... I spend only what I can afford, never missed a payment ever! I buy and sell phone off of craigslist and ebay sometimes. I don't always pay all my Balance at the end of the month but as of now my debt is only at about 200 which I can pay off but don't want to so as to keep my utilization running.
Not every jobless person is foolish. I want more cards to make life easier in the future, not to go on a spending spree...
I intend to apply for 2 chase cards within the next three months when 2 inquiries drop off....
But you aren't making 17k a year.....the best way to help your future is to use those cards sparingly. This will age your accounts and show established credit history, which is easily accomplished with the amount of cards you have now.
If you wait until you have a job you can then get approved for better credit cards with higher limits and rewards! It would be worth the wait in my opinion and best of luck with whatever you choose to do.
Don't lie on a CC app it can be used against you for bankruptcy, divorce etc. proceedings...
