Can disabled former military join nfcu?

I served in the military from 1979 to 1985.

I am 80% disable through the VA,

and I would like to Join the Navy Federal Credit Union.

Is there a way to join since I am no longer in service,

and have no family members that were in the military.

I read i post that you can have someone sponser you,

how would I be able to do that If I don't know anyone,

that is a member, or is there someone who could help me.

Thanks.

OP, I started a new thread for you. Lexie

Re: Can former military join nfcu?

NFCU will not allow disabled veterans to join, shy of meeting other enrollement criteria!

Re: Can former military join nfcu?

I'm a veteran, wasn't able to join. The woman I talked to said the criteria was "receiving money from the DOD." (Or relative receiving it.)

If you are medically retired, and receive your pay through DoD, you're eligible. But if you waived the DoD retired pay for VA pay, you're not eligible.

edit: I would call and describe your status to a CSR, they will ask you questions and tell you for sure
