Hi Mrsmari. Yes your cc's credit limit WILL grow over time, if you are never late, and keep low balances. And with Cap1 this is true up to a point. They have different tiers of cc's with maximum limits on each catagory of the same card(eg: Platinum Visa has 4 different tiers, and cards).
I too started 8 years ago with Cap1 with a $300 cl. Today the card stands at $3,200.
Cap1 is a great starter/rebuilder card, IMO. With perfect pay history, over time, they may eliminate the AF and the monthly fee.
My general rule of thumb is to wait a minimum of 6 months between credit line increases. A year is even better.
But don't be disappointed if, when you talk to the account specialist, they come back and tell you "we do not grant credit line increase at customer's request. We make periodic internal reviews and raise the limits when we feel justified".
If you have only 2 cc's, I might suggest getting another builder card.
