Can my low limit CC grow w/me?

Hi, Everyone
I'm new to the credit world to bear with my beginner ??'s  I attempeted to ask the Captial One rep but he was from over seas and had no idea what I was asking...lol   Well I have 2 beginner CC w/low limits one is a year old and the other just opened now this is all I have for my history. Would these CC grow with me, are they capable of having a high CL? Or would I have to re-apply with the same company and do a BT to have a good CC w/perks. (like no annual fees..lol) If anyone could add some light on this situation I would appreciate it.

How long before I can ask them do reduce my APR ?   23.9%
  • March would be offically one year
  • I called and got CLI after 6 months 200/350 yay Smiley Tongue......... and will do again in March
  • I keep $20/$30 as my balance each month
  • highest amount ever used $130.00
  • annual fee $5.75 ea/month

Re: Can my low limit CC grow w/me?

Hi Mrsmari. Yes your cc's credit limit WILL grow over time, if you are never late, and keep low balances. And with Cap1 this is true up to a point. They have different tiers of cc's with maximum limits on each catagory of the same card(eg: Platinum Visa has 4 different tiers, and cards).

I too started 8 years ago with Cap1 with a $300 cl. Today the card stands at $3,200.

Cap1 is a great starter/rebuilder card, IMO. With perfect pay history, over time, they may eliminate the AF and the monthly fee.

My general rule of thumb is to wait a minimum of 6 months between credit line increases. A year is even better.

But don't be disappointed if, when you talk to the account specialist, they come back and tell you "we do not grant credit line increase at customer's request. We make periodic internal reviews and raise the limits when we feel justified".

If you have only 2 cc's, I might suggest getting another builder card.

What are your FICO scores?

Re: Can my low limit CC grow w/me?

Well  the cap1 ($300 cl @ 16.9%) is my newest card and bank1 ($350 cl @ 23.9%) I had for a year. So I did get a lower rate w/the new card yay, but I did get denied by AMEX last month Smiley Sad  I was thinking of sending a recon letter but I think my score isn't good enough so I might wait 6 months.....what do you think?
