Not that I need to do this, I've just always been curious if you can.
Often, I see people here with some really good credit getting an "insulting" CL on a new approval. I know we often recon to bring that CL up, depending on the lender. But I've always wondered if they don't give you more, can you just tell them you don't want the card then? It would probably post as TL anyway I'm guessing.
I know you can do this for a loan if you decide you don't like the terms and it won't report.
Anyway... It's just a curiousity on my part.

Once you receive the credit card in the mail you still have to activate it. I've always assumed that if you chose not to activate the line of credit that it's not valid? Again, this is my assumption, so I am not certain.
Well there are creditors like Barclays and BofA that report a new TL in less than a week.
My guess is when you submit, you accept the terms, and so you can't refuse the card.

Barclays reported the day after I was approved, so I had no choice essentially. I mean, there was no way I wasn't gonna activiate it..just saying.
Hmmm.... OT but now I'm gonna have to research if a promo period starts upon activation or when it's open. There's a couple more cards I'd like but I can't be trying to match the promo spending on a bunch of cards at once.
Doesn't seem to be a way to do that without it reporting anyways...would love it if that were the case. The inquiry is temporary but the AAoA hit is forever
You can always "refuse" to use the card aka not activate a card and / or cancel the card once you find out the CL, apr, etc. However, by submitting an application for a card, you're essentially "accepting" the card so 9 times out of 10, it will report as a new TL regardless of you deciding to shred the card once you receive it.

Exactly what I was thinking. And how many times have we seen someone recon a 7 to 10 message and get $500 when their highest card is 20k+? It would be nice to say, Oh! Never mind. Not worth my AAoA.

This has always been my assumption. But I've found that in the credit world assumptions are often incorrect.
I wanted to see if I was wrong again.

Not forever. Ten years lol. Which in credit terms seems like forever
