Re: Cap 1 hates me

BoysMum, I too went over the cl many years ago(I've had 2 cards for over 8 years each). It resulted not only in the OL fee, putting me up to the default interest rate of 29.99%, but also Cap1 froze my future cl's for 5 full years!

One time when I was talking to an acct. specialist, she told me that going over the limit, or being late will kill your ability to get a cli for a lonnnnggggggg time. I believe her.

But sticking it out, paying on time, my cl which started out at $300 is now $3,200 with the permanent deletion of the AF and the monthly fee.

Ouch! 5 years!! I'm going to call the credit department today to find out if that's why they won't give me a new card either. At least they never boosted my interest rate, so I count myself lucky. I decided to call them so I could find out exactly what is killing our relationship - ie, does the OL on this account mean that they won't let me get into a better product? I'm almost completely certain they didn't pull my reports, so I need to talk to them about how things have changed. At the same time, I think it'll be a great opportunity to learn something about how they function. At least that's my hope!

BoysMum, get into a better product? No. I don't think it will kill your chances if you apply for another card....unless of course your scores are low or if you have some baddies.

Yes, please do call the back door number to the account specialists. They are very friendly, and you can actually carry on a conversation with them about your accounts, and cards in general. And if you ask them a question and they don't know the answer, ask them to transfer you to their supervisor, who prolly has the answers. That's what I do! Smiley Wink

That's what I thought too, when I finally quit waffling back and forth and applied last night. It got denied and I'm almost totally sure that they didn't go off my CR's, but my account history with them. I don't know 100% though and will find out when I call tonight.

My credit is better now than it was back when I got this account originally and even the backdoor specialists said I'd handled my account great - BUT still not able to wavie AF or give CLI. I can handle the lack of CLI, but not paying that big AF... too high!!

I'll check in with the new credit department and see if they can explain why I was denied a new account. I'll post the answer when I find out. Smiley Happy
