Cap One Authorized User: Rights and Regulations

I added someone to my Cap. One account recently.

They sent me a nice email detailing what an AU can

or cannot do. I found this helpful!

Re: Your Online Request to Add an Authorized User

Message:Dear XXX,

Thanks for contacting us about your Capital One® account.

As you requested, we've added XXX to your account as an
authorized user. We’re mailing a new card separately. If you don’t
receive the card within 7 to 10 business days from the date of this
letter, please contact us immediately at 1-800-955-7070.

Remember that an authorized user:
• Is an individual listed on the credit card account.
• Is issued a card in his or her name and has charging privileges.
• Is reported to the credit reporting agencies as an authorized user
(unless it’s a Small Business account).

Can request certain, account specific information:
• All transaction information (including transactions by other users)
• Balance
• Amount due
• Account status (past due, overlimit, closed, etc.)
• Make a Pay-By-Phone payment
• Report a card lost or stolen
• Can be any age.
• Can remove him or her self from the account.

But an authorized user does not:
• Have financial responsibility for the account.
• Have to be a U.S. citizen or resident.

Additionally, an authorized user cannot:
• Write or sign checks issued off the account.
• Add or delete other users.
• Request a balance transfer.
• Request items to be issued (example: credit cards, PINs or statements)
except their own replacement card.
• Request account fees to be credited.

If you have questions, please give us a call anytime at 1-800-955-7070.

Sincerely,
Capital One

Not sure exactly what you mean by him being able to "claim" the account, but as long as he is an AU on your card, it will add to his AAoA and help his credit (assuming there are no negative marks, high balance, etc. on the account).
