Re: Cap One - How you disappoint me

I don't mean to hijack this thread...I couldn't help noticing odd dog's CC stack.   You have way too many...float 3 or 4 my way, so we can get back to talkin about Capital One.

I just opened a secured CC with Capital One...i'm along for the 1 year ride.  Hoping for a QS approval in about 6 months...wonder if i'll have any luck?  Most of my negs fall off by May/June...that'll leave just a paid Collection and a 3 yr old CO reporting............and a 9 year old discharged Bankruptcy.

Update: Here is thte message I received:

This account has not had at least 3 monthly payments made over the last year

So like someone said earlier - Capital One likes to see usage. I can understand that but with a limit of $750, it is a pain to have to keep paying for stuff I've used throughout the month when I can use one of my other cards that has a decent credit limit.  Cap One will not be in my sock drawer -  it is getting AXED Smiley Mad...

To note though, they were the ones who gave me an unsecured card (the same card I have) when I was rebuilding, so too bad. They helped me, but I am not willing to keep it out of sentiment. Almost 7 years without a CLI, no thank you - NOT going to keep paying your AF.

With all the CL's you have now...doesn't make sense to keep the Cap One.  The NFCU is a nice limit...does it come with any rewards?

I disagree. I think you're being too hasty in your decision. That message is system genereated and like many others have said the front line customer service representatives are useless. Take the time and call the EO and I believe that based on your history they will be able to assit you. I wouldn't want to lose 7 years of history and neither should you.

Re: Cap One - How you disappoint me

the EO office can and will waive your AF for the year as well, and if you already paid it, they'll probably credit your account back that amount. They did that for me on both of my cards.

Yes. It has points. I've used the points to purchase Christmas gift cards for the last two years.

True but due to backdating with my AmEx that is 15 years or so. I won't lose the 7 years immediately anyway, it won't happen until the card falls off my tradeline in another 7 - 10 years.

Re: Cap One - How you disappoint me

It's kind've troubling that people are so quick to bite the hand that feeds them so to speak when Cap1 is often times the only lender who will give them their first cards or give them secured/unsecured cards when no one else will. If you reward them with usage then they will reward you with CL...

They are GREAT rebuilder cards hands down. However, they are not so great when it comes to rewarding customers with adequate clis. SOME do in fact get lucky through the Executive Office. MOST are not! Why should loyal customers that have been cardholders for YEARS have to beg their EO for mediocre increases? They are merely a stepping stone to better cards IMO.

You don't have to beg them. YEMV, I guess. We all have different paths to get to our ultimate, great pie in the sky credit glory BUT it is good to have a good length of AAoA and keeping your starter card seems like a no-brainer to me. Smiley Wink

I do understand the frustration, but sometimes it's worth it...
